Boardlore is a single, polished app that brings the world’s great board-game traditions together under one elegant interface — Western chess and its rule-variants, Shogi, Xiangqi, Go, and regional chess families such as Janggi, Makruk, Sittuyin, and Shatranj. Every variant plays against an offline AI opponent, and each unfamiliar variant comes with built-in learn-the-rules onboarding.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I restore my purchases?

Open the App, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases. This restores your cosmetic art sets and the premium unlock, along with any other previously purchased content. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account used for the original purchase.

What can I buy in Boardlore, and is it pay-to-win?

Boardlore’s core game is free. The optional in-app purchases are cosmetic regional art sets (which change how boards and pieces look) and an optional premium unlock (which enhances the experience and removes advertising). There is no pay-to-win — no purchase changes how a game is decided — and there are no forced mid-game interstitials. Ads are opt-in rewarded videos only, offered if you want a hint or an undo.

I purchased something but it is not showing up

Try the following steps:

  1. Open the App and go to Settings.
  2. Tap Restore Purchases and wait for the confirmation message.
  3. Restart the App.

How do I play against the AI, and does it need a connection?

Boardlore’s AI opponent runs entirely on your device across multiple strength levels, so you can find a fair game whether you are learning a variant or sharpening one you know. It plays fully offline — no connection is required, and a dropped signal never ends a game.

I do not know how a variant works

Each variant carries its own learn-the-rules onboarding that teaches the pieces, the moves, and the win conditions before you sit down to a full game. You do not need to already know Xiangqi, Shogi, Go, or Janggi to explore them — Boardlore teaches you as you go. You can revisit a variant’s rules at any time from within that variant.

The app is running slowly or dropping frames

How do I delete my data?

All your data (saved games, progress, settings, purchase cache) is stored locally on your device. To delete it:

We do not store any of your game data on our servers. Uninstalling the App removes all data completely.

Do you collect my personal data?

We don’t collect personal data ourselves — there is no account, registration, or login, and your games, progress, and settings are stored locally on your device. There is also no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK. The AI opponent runs on your device, so your moves are not sent anywhere. The third-party SDKs that power ads, consent, and purchases do collect limited data, including an advertising identifier (for ads), device information, and purchase receipts.

Those SDKs are Unity LevelPlay (ironSource) and Google AdMob for rewarded ads, Google’s User Messaging Platform for consent, and RevenueCat for purchase management — each handling data per its own privacy policy. How do I manage ad preferences?

Ads in Boardlore are opt-in rewarded videos only, served through Unity LevelPlay (ironSource). If you decline personalized advertising, any rewarded ad you choose to watch will be non-personalized. You can manage ad-related settings through:

Try these steps:

  1. Force-close the App and reopen it.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Check for app updates in the App Store or Google Play.
  4. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the App. Note: this will reset your local saved games and progress. If you have made purchases, use Restore Purchases after reinstalling.
